Bless the Lord
The Book of Psalms is loaded and jam packed full of praise and thanksgiving to the Lord. As we spend time meditating on them they can bring us closer to the Lord in our walk of faith with God. So I want to encourage you today to consider just one example as a reminder of just how easy it is for you and I to not only become strong and courageous in the Lord Jesus, but also become more pleasing unto God the Father.
One particular portion of scripture that will change the way you think, act, and see yourself in the presence of God the Father will also help you better understand how God sees you as that new creation in Christ Jesus described in 2 Corth 5:17. This is good news to the child of God and a opportunity to rejoice in the Lord, so rejoice as Paul wrote in Phil 4:4.
So with an open heart and an open mind let the Holy Spirit fill you with the blessing of this scripture today. Beginning with Psalms 103:1-2 and I quote, "Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases". That is a powerful piece of scripture to apply daily. But notice it is an action scripture directed at you and I to do something.
It is our responsible to do what the scripture says to do. That something is a command for you to speak to your soul, the part of you that needs encouragement oftentimes. We sometimes get lazy and wish that God would do something but He has already done everything when He sent Jesus to the cross.
Too many Christians today just read the Bible and do not do anything with what they read, but James chapter 1 verse 22 says "Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves". In other words, if you truly want to be blessed by God, start living and doing what the Bible says to do. I want you to read the first part of that verse again, and this time read each word as if God is speaking to you. It is saying "Bless the Lord O my soul". The understood subject in this phase is you and I. It is a command to us to Bless the Lord. How do you do that you might ask?
Take a close look at another very familiar portion of scripture we have all heard and read at one time. It is in Psalms 100:4 where it says that we are to "enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him and bless His name". This is one way for us to Bless the Lord with our soul. We can also offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, which is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.
"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases". Glory to God!
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
