The Armor of God
The Apostle Paul writes to the church at Ephesus and instructs them on the armor of God. The armor was designed by God for the church in defending themselves against their adversary the devil, who as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking who he may devour, (1 Peter 5:8). This verse begins by saying, be sober, be vigilant, which mean be clear minded and alert for his attacks.
Although the devil has already been openly defeated in battle by Jesus as described in Colossians 2:15 and thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corth 15:57), Satan will try to inject thoughts into the minds of believers and take advantage of ignorant, weak, baby Christians who do not know their rights and privileges in Christ Jesus.
In the book of Ephesians, chapter 6, verse 10, in his letter to the Ephesians, Paul writes “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might”. We do not have to pray to win, we have already won. We do not have to struggle to win, we have already won. This part of his letter to the church refers to maintaining a continuous warfare against the enemy in order for the Word of God to go unhindered in your life. God's people must take the initiative against the evil forces. Our warfare is not against God, it is not against people, it is against Satan and his evil forces.
Satan tries to claim squatter rights in your life unless he is driven out with the Word of God. That is why the armor of God also includes an offensive weapon, the Word of God which is an attack weapon to put Satan on the run. Jesus showed us how the Word of God is to be used when the devil talks to you. If Satan talked to Jesus in His weakest moment and Jesus defeated him using the Word of God than you can be sure he will do the same to you.
Strike 1
In Matthew chapter 4 verses 1-4 we see an example of how Jesus uses the Word of God to defeat the devil. Jesus just finished fasting 40 days and 40 nights and He is very hungry and that is when Satan comes and says to him, IF you be the Son of God, then command these stones to be made bread so you may eat and no longer be hungry, and Jesus says NO; man shall not live by bread alone but by every Word out of the mouth of God. Here Jesus is quoting the word of God described in Deuteronomy 8:3.
Strike 2
Satan keeps talking and that is what he does best until he is driven out with the word of God. This time in verses 5-7, he says IF thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, God shall give His angels charge concerning thee; and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash they foot against a stone. You see, the devil can quote scripture too if he thinks he can get you to do what he wants. But Jesus says, quoting Duet 6:16, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Strike 3
Finally in verses 8-11, the devil takes Jesus up into an exceeding high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them, and said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get the hence, Satan; for it is written, Thou Shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil left. The devil will away leave when we use the word of God to drive him out of our mind, our home, our business, our marriage. He has been defeated so give no place to the devil (Eph 4:27; James 4:7).
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
