Anointed Profit for July 2016

The Writers of the New Testament

Why four biographies of Jesus instead of one? There are four witnesses presenting their versions of the case of Jesus, each in his own way, and in a sense, in his own language that furnish a much more complete testimony than just one witness of the life of Jesus.

Matthew writes particularly to the Jewish mind to prove that Jesus is the Christ. He quotes more numerously from the prophecies of the Jewish Scriptures than do the other gospel writers. He traces the genealogy of Jesus in more detail.

Mark and Luke write more for the Roman and Greek types of minds to show them Jesus as the man of power over men and nature. They tell more of Jesus’ miracles and wonderful works as recorded by them, more so than by Matthew.

John’s gospel is more general, and deals with principles and conclusions. He is less complete in his biographical matter, choosing only such issues as are needed to bring out the thought he has in mind to present.

Luke, the companion of the Apostle Paul, is the writer of the book of Acts. This book deals with the history of the founding and earliest days of the church. It also contains helpful suggestions as to worship and the life of the first Christians under the guidance of the apostles. Herein you will find model conversions. In Acts chapters 2, 8, 9, 10, and 16 you find inspired and divinely guided examples of the conversion of people of practically every type and condition of their mind.

There are eight writers of the New Testament writing under the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit that wrote a combined 27 books that make up the New Testament.

Paul wrote 14 books of the New Testiment
James 1 book
Peter 2 books
John 3 books, 1 gospel, and Revelations for a total of 5
Jude 1 book
Matthew 1 gospel
Mark 1 gospel
Luke 1 gospel and the book of Acts

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
