Where and how did we get our Holy Bible? - Part 1
Here are proofs of the inspiration of the Scriptures. The writings which make up the Bible have in themselves the unmistakable evidence that no man or group of men could, by any possibility, have produced the book. The evidence of the divine source, and the proofs that the mind of God was in back of the Bible exist in the Bible itself.
There were about 40 different individuals involved in writing the Bible over a period of about 1,600 years. From approximately 1,500 years B.C. to about 100 years A.D., the Bible answers the question of how many writers it took to write the Bible, and how many years it took to do so.
Through what difficulties has the Bible come down to us? It has come through nations that are long since dead; through captivities; through desertion and neglect at times by the very nation that produced it; through fire, sword, and slaughter, and through well-organized and determined national attempts to utterly destroy and eradicate the Bible.
How and why did ancient writings last through so many centuries? Some of the writings were completed with the nearest possible approach to permanency there were at the time; by chisel in stone, by being indented in bricks, which were then baked, and by indelible ink on parchment and papyrus.
What are the three sources of ancient Bible writings? Copies of the original manuscripts, a hand-copied document from the original, or from another copy; a version is a translation from the original or from a copy into another language; a quotation is a verbatim taken from one document and incorporated into another.
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
