Why do the Righteous Suffer?
First of all, the Bible says in Hosea 4:6 that my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.
Christians should understand why the righteous suffer. The scriptures reveal how Christians need not suffer needlessly and unnecessarily. However, the scriptures also report that Christians will suffer persecution.
The Bible says in 2nd Timothy 3:12 that all who will live a godly life will suffer persecution. Here are some of the reasons for this persecution.
One reason for persecution is because the righteous are a continual rebuke to the wicked. That is, they who delight in wrong doing must either reform their ways or in self defense wage war against those who’s manner of living reproaches their own evil ways. This has always been and will always be in this case.
John the Baptist angered the Herodian because he had rebuked her for her marriage with Herod. She was not satisfied until she had John beheaded.
The Three Hebrew children refused to bow down to golden images and because of their refusal they were all thrown into the hot fiery furnace.
In John 15:20-21, Jesus said, if they persecute me, they will persecute you.
The Bible does declare in 1st Peter 2:20-21, that when you do well and suffer for it, and take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
Secondly, The Bible says that the just suffer when they neglect prayer.
The devil hates Christians 24 hours a day and consequently, looks for a way into their lives to deal with them in a destructive manner. John 10:10 declares that the devil seeks to kill, steal, and destroy.
The safe way is to continually feed on the Word of God and commune with God in daily prayer.
In Luke 22:46 Jesus asked His disciples, Why sleep ye? Rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
Satan takes advantage of those people who let up on their prayer life.
Get victory over the devil by establishing an hour of daily prayer and commune with God. James 4:7 says to submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
