Intercessory Prayer and Unknown Tongues

Intercessory prayer is a prayer for others and not yourself. You stand in the gap on behalf of others through intercessory prayer. We become linked with God in the spirit realm with our spirits; therefore, our communion with God should be done in the spirit language that God has given to those who asked and received.

Jesus said to pray in spirit and truth. In John 6:63 Jesus said that His words are spirit and they are life. Most people's prayers are from their mind, but we should pray with our spirit where our mind is inactive and where our spirits take over in prayer. We can pray in English when it is anointed, but also in tongues because praying in tongues comes from your spirit.

In the eighth chapter of Romans and beginning in verse 26 we read that “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Holy Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered (in your natural language). This means that the Holy Spirit joins together with your spirit in making prayer, communion, and in fellowship with God.

Verse 27 goes on to read “And He (Holy Spirit) that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God”. There you go, the Holy Spirit is joining together with your spirit in prayer in praying the perfect prayer according to the will of God. That is Awesome!

We can further read in 1 Corinthians 14:14 on what the Apostle Paul has to say about the Holy Spirit, intercessory prayer, and tongues. Here Paul says that when you pray in the spirit, that your spirit prays and this spirit language is born out of the Father of Spirits.

In 1 Corinthians 14:2 Paul writes that when you pray in the Spirit you pray and speak directly unto God. Your personal prayer language was given to you when you asked God for it and it is your personal prayer language that is primarily an instrument to assist you in the praise and worship of God.

You might ask yourself, what could you possible say that would interest God, the Creator, the all seeing and all knowing Father of all spirits? Well, the Apostle Paul said that he was glad that he spoke in tongues more than anyone else and he credits his revelations, spiritual growth, and wisdom to speaking in tongues.

When we speak or pray in tongues we get off of the level where we live and begin to speak to God on His level. Some Christians call it praying in tongues while others call it praying in the spirit. Either way it is speaking in an unknown tongue. It is not unknown to God because He is the one that gives you the ability to pray in the spirit in a heavenly language. Weymouth translation records that when we speak in tongues to God we speak in divine secrets and mysteries. It is not a mystery to God but it is to mankind.

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
