Faith Worketh by Love (Gal 5:6)

Christian Code of Ethics - (Saint Paul's Final Words)

Saint Paul’s final words.

Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly. But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner (Hebrews 13:18-19).

With the final examination now completed, Paul now asked his readers to remember him in prayer as he served the Lord, that he might be a faithful minister. He did not know how much longer it would be before he ended his ministry in martyrdom.

Now the God of peace, that was brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever, Amen (Hebrews 13:20-21).

In the two previous verses, the God of peace is illustrated (1) make you perfect in every good work, (2) to do His will, (3) working in you, (4) that which is well pleasing in His sight, etc. can be combined with Eph 3:20.

Paul now brings the epistle to a close with a benediction, stating those important doctrines of the faith, the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, the Great Shepherd of the sheep. It is through His shed blood, that He has reconciled us to God the Father, and brought us into an eternal relationship of peace with God.

And I beseech you, brethren; suffer the word of exhortation; for I have written a letter unto you in a few words (Hebrews 13:22). Paul tells them to pay attention to his words of exhortation in this epistle. Judgment is never a pleasant, or a popular subject, but it is often necessary. God’s people need to be aware that God will judge His people if it is necessary.

Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he comes shortly, I will see you (Hebrews 13:23).   Timothy, Paul’s travelling companion, who had apparently also been in prison, was now at liberty, and Paul hoped that they could soon again visit these Jewish believers. This association with Timothy adds to the weight of the Pauline authorship of the book of Hebrews.

Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you (Verse 24). There are those who have concluded that Paul wrote this letter from the statement, “They of Italy salute you.”

Grace be with you all. Amen (Verse 25). This is Paul message he leaves in every one of his epistles so that his readers could recognize them as genuine.

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
