Christian Code of Ethics - (Saint Paul's Final Words)
Having also been an Adjunct Professor of Accounting for Linfield College, in McMinville, Oregon during the late 1990's, it was customary for me to give accounting students a variety of quizzes, tests, and a final comprehensive examination of the course material. Student's retention level of the material could then be more honestly and objectively measured and evaluated.
The writer of the book of Hebrews used this same technique. It has been debated that Saint Paul is the author of the book of Hebrews and for purposes of my sermon on this subject, I shall make reference to the Apostle Paul as being the author of the book of Hebrews. In so doing . . . .
After teaching for twelve chapters on Doctrine in the book of Hebrews, Saint Paul now gives his readers a final examination by which they could test their own spiritual maturity on the subjects for which he has laid before them.
In Chapter 13, Saint Paul lists 13 examples of conduct which should be found in the lives of spiritually mature believers. It was to give his readers an examination by which they could test their own spiritual maturity.
1. Have Love for the Brethren
2. Give Hospitality to the Brethren
3. Be Sympathetic to Others
4. Be Sexually Pure
5. Be Content
6. Have Confidence in the Lord
7. Intercede for your Pastor
8. Be Stable
9. Be Separated from the Law and World to Jesus Christ
10. Be Consistent
11. Communicate - Give of your Material Substance
12. Have Respect for your Pastor
13. Saint Paul's Final Words
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
