Welcome to Cornerstone Ministries . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Paul points out four of the chief characteristics of the life of love. These are, the love of the brethren, hospitality, sympathy with those who are in bonds or persecuted, and the love of the married couple.
Number 2 – Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares (Hebrews 13:2).
Hospitality to the brethren. The Greek word used for strangers, literally meant dear ones – born again believers – who they did not know personally. In those days, visiting preachers travelled from place to place preaching the word of God. Paul proclaimed that the believers to whom they ministered to had a personal responsibility to be hospitable to them, and to supply their material needs as necessary.
It was in this manner that Abraham, Gideon, Lot, and Samson’s mother had entertained angels unknowingly. Our spiritual maturity is measured by how hospitable we are to the brethren. Love must prove itself in deeds. Let us remember the deep spiritual mystery, that our actions often mean more than we know; we may be entertaining angels, or even their Lord. Jesus said, he that receiveth you, receiveth Me.
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
