Those who would be saved must turn from false hopes
1. All must repent or perish
Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish (Luke 13:2-3).
2. Those who rest in their own righteousness shall be abased
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted (Luke 18:14).
3. There is none good but God – One thing thou lackest
Why callest thou me good: there is none good but one, that is, God. . . . One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me (Mark 10:18, 21).
4. A trust in riches must be forsaken
Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God? (Mark 10:24).
5. Repent of lukewarmness or be rejected
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold or hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth (Rev 3:15-16).
6. Not those who say “Lord, Lord,” But they who do the will of God are saved
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven (Matt 7:21).
7. Those who claim great works but do iniquity to be condemned
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity (Matt 7:22-23).
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
