Adultery – Violation of the Seventh Commandment
1. Adultery forbidden
Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, thou shalt not commit adultery (Matthew 5:27).
2. The look of lust is adultery
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart (Matthew 5:28).
3. The divorcée that remarries commits adultery
It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement (Matthew 5:31). But, I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery (Matthew 5:32).
4. Adultery springs from an evil heart
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man (Matthew 15:19-20).
5. Relation between adultery and unbelief
A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas (Matthew16:4).
6. Divorce suffered under law because of hardness of heart
Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery (Matthew 19:8-9).
7. The unclean shall not enter city of God
For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murders, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie (Revelations 22:15).
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
