Hypocrisy - Group 2 - Violation of the Ninth Commandment
1. Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy
Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy (Luke 12:1).
2. The hypocrisy of Lip Worship
Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written,
This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me (Mark 7:6).
3. The hypocrisy of those who say and do not
All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers (Matthew 23:3-4).
4. The hypocrisy of those who give alms to be seen of men
Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward (Matthew 6:1-2).
5. The hypocrisy of those who pray to be seen of men
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward (Matthew 6:5).
6. The hypocrisy of those who fast to be seen of men
Moreover when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward (Matthew 6:16).
7. The hypocrisy of those who oppose divine healing
Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? (Luke 13:15)
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
