Marriage
1. Marriage ordained of God
But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh (Mark 10:6-8).
2. What God hath joined, man is not to put asunder
What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder (Mark 10:9).
3. Divorce permitted in olden times because of hardness of men’s hearts
Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so (Matt 19:8).
4. Divorce and remarriage constitutes adultery
And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery (Math 19:9).
5. For some it is better not to marry
All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given: For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it (Matt 19:11-12).
6. Marriage ties dissolved in heaven
For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage: but are as the angels which are in heaven (Mark 12:25).
7. Christ recognizes legal aspect of marriage
Thou hast well said, I have no husband: For thou hast had five husbands; and he who thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly (John 4:17-18).
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
