The Poor
1. The gospel preached to the poor
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised (Luke 4:18).
2. Christ blesses the poor
Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God (Luke 6:20).
3. A reward promised to those who feed the poor
But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just (Luke 14:13-14).
4. Give to the poor
One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow (Mark 10:21).
5. Poverty shall forever be a problem of this world
For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always (John 12:8).
6. Those who are kind to the poor and needy blessed at the judgement
Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me, And the King shall answer and say unto them. Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me (Matt 25:34-36, 40).
7. Those who are poor in this world for Christ are truly rich
I know thy works, and tribulations, and poverty, (but thou are rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan (Rev 2:9).
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (I Timothy 4:15).
